Pro bono work is essential in Carey’s legal practice. We believe that our lawyers may make a positive impact in society, collaborating in socially important cases where free legal support is required.
Our partners support pro bono work and encourage lawyers to participate in this kind of cases. Internally, we have achieved to organize and efficiently manage these projects, with a partner in charge of projects and a pro bono coordinator, always providing a legal service of excellent quality.
We are founding members of Fundación Pro Bono (Pro Bono Foundation) since 2000, and our partner, José Tomás Hurley, is part of its board. Through the Foundation, we receive requests of legal voluntary support, which enables Carey to reach a great number of institutions or people that are in need of free legal advice.
Also, we are members of the Network of Criminal Lawyers from the Fundación Pro Bono and signed the Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas in 2007. Furthermore, Carey also provides pro bono advice to its own clients.
Our partners support pro bono work and encourage lawyers to participate in these kind of cases.
Every year we have received a considerable number of awards for our work. For instance, in 2017, Latin Lawyer and the Cyrus Vance Center named us “Pro Bono Leading Light”, acknowledgement we have received annually since 2012.
